November/December 2000

COMMANDER'S MESSAGE | PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE | CHRISTMAS PARTY REGISTRATION

Past Commanders Honored with Jackets

Past Post Commanders from (left to right) Lou Trundy, Ron Tancrede, Raoul Therrien, John Marr, Bill Lemay, Andy Gagnon and Bernie Mushorn. Missing were Joe Caouette, John Burke, Paul Joncas, Hampy Blanchette, David Cornish, and Ron Shorey.

In ceremonies recently held at Post 47 Commander Allard presented all the living Past Post Commanders with Past Commander Jackets. According to Commander Allard, by whose initiative this was accomplished, "It's time that we recognize the time and effort that these people put in during their years at the helm of Post 47". The presentation was made during the Ladies Auxiliary Membership Supper and was made especially memorable because the National Auxiliary President, Department President, and National Executive Committeeman were in attendance. Now that the tradition has been started we hope to continue the presentation of the "Jackets" in the future. In another presentation that evening Comrade Bud Dunn was presented with the "Golden Gate Award" in remembrance of the Department Convention 2000. (If you are curious as to the nature of this award you'll have to ask him!)

Commander's Message:

We have some exciting things going on at your post and if your not keeping up, your missing some great fun. First of all I want to congratulate the Past Commanders that received their "Jackets" in September, it's a well deserved honor. It was also a particular and personal honor to have President West here at the post.

We are in the planning stages for an Awards Night Ceremony to be held in the early Spring. We will be paying special honor to the WWII vets of our Post. You'll hear more on this later. The Post Christmas Party registration forms are being included with this letter. Please fill them out and submit them early. Don't forget the Posts' web site at "www.post47.org" the best way to keep up with happenings at the post. Webmaster and Unit 47 member Linda Airey has set up a wonderful way for us to keep informed.

Membership dues are coming in at a much slower pace than I'd like. Please take the time to send them in today. We have a makeable goal this year and I sure would like to reach our 100% by December 31.

In closing, check out the reduced prices at the canteen in the afternoon, pizza and dollar beers on Sundays, and when your making you New Years plans check out the party at Post 47. Live band, dinner, party favors, and a free ride home. All a a most reasonable price.

Best wishes to all of you for a Happy and Safe Holiday Season.

President's Message:

Just a quick note to you on the Auxiliary happenings. We had a wonderful turnout for the membership supper this year. National President Kris West and Department President Carol Neville were with us and we had a wonderful dinner and a great time at the Penny Sale afterward. In our meeting in October, several boxes were turned in for the Samaratans Children Project which we will be doing this year again. Donations for the Veterans shelf at the Manchester VA hospital have also been arriving. Instead of making gifts for the Veterans to pick from for their families, we voted at our meeting to send money instead so that the committee could buy some more age appropriate gifts. If you would like to donat anything for the Veterans shelf, we will gladly accept donationsn for small packages of Kleenex, disposable razors, sample sizes of shampoo, body powder, and toothpaste.

In December we will be having our potluck supper with the Legion and SAL. We will also have our traditional sing-along of Christmas Carols. Instead of exchanging the usual $5 gift, we will be donating the money to the President's Project. We have been doing this for the past several years and it has been much appreciated by the past presidents. We still have the Friday night suppers. We would like to see more of you stop by and have dinner with us. It is always good, plentiful and homecooked.

District 3 Director Barbara Moore would like for us to start collecting pennies. She would like for all Unit Presidents to collect each meeting and present them at the mid-winter conference. She would like to show the veterans that they are "worth every penny". The pennies will all be donated to President Neville's Veterans Project. Watch for our "can" at the meetings.

For those of you who also belong to the 8 & 40, there will be a testimonial for Chapeau Departmental Shirley Calvert at Rollinsford on November 19th at 1:00 PM. If you are interested in attending, please contact me for tickets. They are $12.00 each.

I hope you have Happy Holidays and hope to see you in a meeting soon!

--Betty Trundy
