President's Message:
It has been a while since you have received a letter from us. I will try and bring you up to date on what is happening.
The Unit has continued to provide dinners twice a month in the Post Lounge. The attendance at these dinners has declined quite a bit since we first started. We have asked for your support but our revenues continue to decline. At our last two meetings, we have discussed ways in which to raise funds and how to cut expenses.
Loretta Alty and Marge Bailey are working hard on a Calendar Sale. Calendars are available now and names will be drawn in June.
We took part in the annual bunny shoot. It turned out to be a 2-day event due to the low turnout of participants. The baskets for the Auxiliary were put together by Kathleen clark and Joan Doyon. They did a marvelous job shopping and putting these baskets together.
It was decided in our meeting of March to make a change in our By-Laws. Article I Section 5 reads as follows: The unit will pay annual dues for members who have 35 years of continuous service. They will not be considered a Life Member. It has been changed to: The Unit will pay annual dues for members who have 35 years or more of continuous membership with the following restrictions: Their names must be on the current list as of January 11, 2000 or in a nursing home. They will not be considered a life Member. No new names will be added after this date.
I would like to thank Linda Marr and Joan Doyon for washing walls, light fixtures and paneling in the Auxiliary rom. We are trying to "spruce up" our room and ia good spring cleaning has done wonders.
The Unit Chairmen are preparing their reports to be turned into the Department Chairman by May 5th. I wish all of you could see the beautiful book on ireland that has been made by Foreign Relations chairman Joan Doyon. She wrote about her trip to Ireland and used many of her pictures in putting it together. It will be entered into the foreign Relations contest at our Department Convention. Unit Historian Marge Durnin has also put together a Unit History report which will be sent in as well.
We send our deepest sympathy to Dee Veno on the loss of her husband, Roland, on April 14th. Our "Santa Claus" will be sadly missed by all of us.
Our meetings are still on the second Tuesday of each month. I hope that more of you will attend and get involved. I look forward to working with commander "Spike" during this coming year.
